Coulbourne & Jewett T-Shirt

$30.00Price

H3irloom Food Group presents its first shirt in a series of exclusive and limited edition apparel dedicated to Black Food History in the Mid-Atlantic.

This first shirt is dedicated to seafood pioneers, William H.T. Coulbourne and Frederick Jewett, whose company would revolutionize the seafood industry. Coulbourne & Jewett Seafood Packing Company was established in 1902 in St. Michaels, Maryland after Frederick Jewett was able to do something that many Black people at the time could not-- buy land and secure a $500 loan from a small bank. Coulburne & Jewett's company created a classificatiom system for crab meat that is still in use to this day. Have you ever noticed how crab meat is referred to as lump, claw, backfin, and/or special? That classification sytem was the creation of Coulbourne & Jewett's Seafood Packing Company!  As a black-owned business, Coulbourne & Jewett became the largest employer in St. Michaels for almost 60 years specialzing in year-round packing and shipping of oysters and crab meat.

Know your history and share its glory! A portion of proceeds from the sale of each t-shirt will go towards the development of Gabriel Fields-- a 68+ acre farm in Baltimore County that reclaims the land for Black farming, education, and stewardship.

Shirt Color: Light Khaki with vibrant vintage logo designed by Kisira Hill!
